Green Communities: Prairie Crossing

Before Wardsville can build consensus around what it would like to become, it makes sense for us to go travelling and see what other communities are up to. This can easily be done sitting in front of the computer.

Stew Simpson, Ross Snider, and I went to the ACRES USA eco-agriculture conference in Louisville in early December and I had a chance to talk to people about Wardsville and its desire to figure out its future.

I’ll share some of the places that were recommended to me. Just as ideas: ideas that might beget other ideas.

Here is Prairie Crossing, somewhere between Milwaukee and Chicago. The community was designed to combine responsible development, the preservation of open land and easy commuting by rail. It is now considered a national example.
